However, the system service exception error(which has an error code 0x0000003B) can also be seen in Windows 8/8.1 and older Windows 7 PCs.

System Service Exception Error in Windows 10 occurs when the system performs its routine check and found a process which switches from nonprivileged code to privileged code.

Causes of system service exception

The system service exception can occur when you start a program such as a video game or some editing tools or even  an emulator such as Genymotion. The error occurs at random intervals.

The error can also occur when you wake up the PC from sleep mode or while using the internet. There are several causes for the system service exception error.

However, the most common causes are corrupted drivers, corrupted system files, and outdated drivers.

  • The causes of the SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION blue screen of death could be the excessive paged pool usage, crossed-over graphics drivers or bad data passed to the kernel code.

Solution for system service exception

1Run Startup Repair

1.When the system restarts press Shift + F8 key to open Legacy Advanced Boot options and if pressing the keys doesn’t help then you have to enable legacy advanced boot option by following this post.

2.Next, from Choose an option screen select Troubleshoot.

3.From Troubleshoot screen select Advanced options.

4.Now from Advanced options select Startup/Automatic Repair.

2Update Windows Patches

Service pack is a collection of updates and fixes, called patches, for operating system or a software program. It usually allows an easy and single installation. You could usually check your service pack in Control Panel > System.

In Windows, most patches and fixes are available through Windows Update. It is suggested that you check whether your computer has installed the latest released patches in Settings > Updates & security.

3Run a System File Checker

System file checker is a built-in tool that helps you replace corrupted or faulty system files and replace them with new problem-free ones. This is an effective way to solve your System Service Exception BSOD error.

1) On your keyboard, press the Start button, then type in cmd.

From the list of choice, right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. 2) Type in the following command: chkdsk /f /r , then hit the Enter button. Then press Y to agree with the check up next time you start your computer.

Update BIOS, Video Card Drivers, Sound Card Drivers, etc

At times, the external hardware such as Keyboard, mouse and USB devices can cause system service exception error.  This error can be fixed by either updating the drive of the concerned hardware to the latest one or by uninstalling the USB device.

If the System Service Exception error occurs when you are playing games or when you wake up the PC from the sleep, then it could be a video card driver issue. What you can do here is update your video card driver to the latest available one. Visit the website of your video card vendor and look if any new updates are available for your version of the graphic card.

In case installing the latest version of video card driver doesn’t work or if you think you have the latest version installed then try to get the earlier version of the same drive and install it. At times, even the latest version of the drivers can create problems.

Also, check your WiFi and Bluetooth related drivers and see if they are up to date or the error occurred after you updated the drivers for any one of them.

Uninstall Antivirus Software

If you using antivirus software such as McAfee, BitDefender, Virtual Clone Drive etc, you should go to their support website and look for ways to disable them.

Or better, uninstall them totally from your computer since they are reported to have something to do with the blue screen of death issue. After uninstalling them, please check if the problem goes away.

5Disable Webcam

Follow these instructions to disable your webcam:

  1. Open Device Manager. Press Windows Key + X and choose Device Manager from the list.
  2. Now in Device Manager you need to find your webcam, right click it, and choose Disable from the list.

6Uninstall Virtual CloneDrive

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (ks.sys) can sometimes be caused by Virtual CloneDrive tool, so if you’re using Virtual CloneDrive, make sure that you uninstall it in order to fix this problem.

7Uninstall Xsplit and remove MSI Live Update

If you’re getting SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION while playing video games, you should remove or update XSplit software. In addition, it has been confirmed that MSI Live Update uses drivers that are causing this error, so make sure that you remove it as well.

8Remove BitDefender and Cisco VPN

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (ntfs.sys) can be caused by BitDefender or Cisco VPN, so if you’re using any of these tools, make sure that you remove them. After removing these programs, you can reinstall the latest version and the issue should be resolved.

9Uninstall Asus GameFirst Service

Asus GameFirst Service is designed to optimize your network for gaming, and some gamers use it, but it has been reported that this tool can cause issues on Windows 10 and give you SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (ntfs.sys) error.

So far, only solution is to remove Asus GameFirst Service in order to fix this error. As you can see, this error is usually caused by incompatible hardware, driver, or software, and in most cases the best solution is to find the problematic hardware, driver or software, and disable it.

10Disable Automatic Update Services

Some programs like Google Chrome and Firefox keeps checking for the new updates regularly. Most the time, these checkup happens when you restart your PC every day and start the program. The Google Chrome works the same way. Whenever you restart your PC and restart Google Chrome, it will automatically check for any new updates for the program.

Though these services keep your program up to date, they may also cause system service exception error in Windows 10. To fix this, you can try disabling these automatic update services from the System Configuration tab. Here is how to do it.

For this example, we will be disabling Google Chrome’s Google Update services that check for the available updates when you restart Chrome.

  • Press Windows Key + R and type msconfig and hit enter. It will open System Configuration window.
  • Under System Configuration window, click and open the Services tab.
  • Check the box “Hide all Microsoft Services”. This will hide all the Microsoft services from the list.

Now find two Google Update services and uncheck them. Click Apply and click OK to save the changes.Run a Malware Scan

If you check your error log, you may find that the system service exception error was caused due to a bad address to win32k.sys. This happens if win32k.sys file is corrupted or got infected with malware.

What here you can do is, run your Antivirus program and scan your PC. If found anything suspicious, take appropriate action, and that might fix system service exception error.

11Check Dump Files

Whenever your system crashes, the Windows creates a log file and puts it in a minidump folder. The dump file contains information regarding the crash with the crash code and of course, a possible cause or detail about which driver or program failed.

You can locate the dump file at %systemroot%Minidump. If you have the dump folder, then it will have a file for every crash with the .dmp extension. The dump files cannot be open using normal text editors. To open dump file, you need WinDbg, which is part of Microsoft Visual Studio.

It is a simple utility which upon installation automatically detects the minidump file and point you to the offending driver or device that is causing the error. 12Disable Hyper-V if Genymotion is Causing BSOD

If you are trying to launch Genymotion from Eclipse, then you may face the system service exception error. When you launch it, the system will show Blue screen of death error, forcing you to restart.

You can fix this error with Genymotion and Eclipse by disabling the Hyper-V from the settings.

Click the Cortana/Search bar and type Turn Windows Features On or Off. Select Turn Windows Features On or Off from the sarch results.

Here, scroll down and find Hyper-V. Uncheck it, and click on Apply/OK. Wait till the settings are saved.

Next, try to launch genymotion from Eclipse and you should not get the Blue screen of death error.

13Run CCleaner and Antimalware

1.Download and install CCleaner & Malwarebytes.

14Remove Windows Update Number KB2778344

1.It is recommended to boot into safe mode to uninstall Windows Security Update KB2778344.

2.Next, Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

3.Now click View installed updates in the top-left area.

4.In the search bar on top-right type “KB2778344.”

5.Now right click on Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2778344) and select uninstall to remove this update.

6.If asked for confirmation click yes.

7.Reboot your PC and this should be able to Fix System Service Exception Error Windows 10.

15Run Windows Memory Diagnostic

1.Type memory in the Windows search bar and select “Windows Memory Diagnostic.

2.In the set of options displayed select “Restart now and check for problems.

17Uninstall Recently Installed Programs or Update

It is possible that your problem has been caused by any program that you have installed recently. Else, Most recent windows update may not go through right way. So, To get rid of system service exception, You should uninstall most recently installed software or update. It totally depends on your situation. If you can’t access your PC normally, You will have to do it in safe mode.

18Disable Google Update Services

You may become surprised that google automatic update services can cause “system service exception”. To fix this problem, You must try to disable google update services and check if it resolves the issue. I know that is useful service to keep your browser up to date. But a simple sacrifice may help you a lot. Anyway, Here is how you can do it –

  • First of all, Press Windows Key + R from keyboard.
  • Type msconfig and hit Enter.
  • Click on Services tab.
  • Now, Find and uncheck Google Update Service.
  • Click on Apply and OK.
  • Restart your PC and see you have just overcome the nightmare system service exception.

19Run Driver Verifier

This method is only useful if you can log into your Windows normally not in the safe mode. Next, make sure to create a System Restore point.

Excepional Cases of System service exception errors and Solution

21Fix System_Service_Exception (ks.sys)

You see a specific name ks.sys with the error name. If above methods fail to fix the problem, You can disable your web cam from device manager in order to fix it. To do it –

  • Press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager.
  • Now, Find the Web Cam driver and right click on it. Then select Disable.

After disabling web cam, You may still face the problem. Specially, In windows 10, McAfee and any other any virus may cause system_service_exception (ks.sys) problem. So, You may need to completely remove your antivirus temporarily to check if it helps. Every antivirus should have a tool to remove them completely from your PC. Your bitdefender antivirus and any VPN client, You can uninstall them to fix this error with the specific driver name ntfs.sys. Asus Laptop or PC users may have a software named Asus GameFirst Service. It may cause this error. So, You can uninstall it.

23System Service Exception during Playing Video Game or HD Video

It is very common that you may face it during play a video game. In that case, If you have installed MSI Live Update and Xsplit software, You can uninstall them. You also may need to update your video drivers.
